About the Trainers

Tim Nurnberger

Certified Personal Fitness Trainer

Born and raised on a farm in Southern Illinois, I had never envisioned myself living in California and working as a personal trainer! My interest in training began when I joined my first gym at the age of 18. I absorbed as much information as I could about fitness from books, articles on the internet, and even other individuals to ensure I could get the most out of my time spent in the gym. As with Kacie, I attended school and 'went through the motions' not really knowing exactly what I wanted to do. After so many talks and suggestions of 'you should do what you enjoy,' I decided to do just that! I became certified by the National Council on Strength and Fitness as a Personal Trainer with the knowledge and skills to change lives! There are no two people that are the same, but clear goal setting and development of a solid action plan coupled with nutritional guidelines and accountability will pave the way to allow ANYONE to succeed in their specific fitness or weight loss goals.

I worked two jobs to pay for my bachelor's degree in Business Management at Mississippi State University. All through school I was never sure what I really wanted to do with my career. I knew that whatever it was, I wanted to help people. I also knew that I loved sports and anything active (you would think that I would have put two and two together back then). I looked at my Business Management degree as just a starting point.

After working in the 'real world' as a project manager for several years, I found myself bored and unfulfilled. I was only 24 and managing 6 people and 50 projects. Though I made good money and worked very hard to get where I was, sitting at a desk all day was not what I had envisioned as the perfect job.

I decided to look for a volunteer assistant coach position so I had something to look forward to at the end of the day. My first interview hired me on the spot as head coach of both girls and boys soccer. Cristo Rey High School had just opened a year earlier and needed someone to start their soccer program. Wow, was I way in over my head! I took the challenge with both feet in and loved every second of it! Most of the girls had never played soccer before. It was so rewarding to see how much they improved throughout the season.

I found my passion. Though I had general knowledge of training and fitness, I wanted to know more. I wanted to be a personal trainer and a coach!

Now here I am, AFPA certified and ready to conquer the world, helping one person at a time. I believe that everyone has it in them to be happy and healthy; sometimes they just need a little guidance.

I'm so excited to be starting something new in my life and to be able to get healthy at the same time. I'm currently in my second year as an Elementary school teacher and I find that it sometimes consumes way too much of my life. Last year I never made time to exercise so this year I made it a point to do something for myself and to put my health first. I have decided that while I am young and physically able, I am going to enjoy life and take in as much as I can. So when the opportunity to teach fitness classes came my way, of course I said yes. So here I am, getting certified as a Group Fitness Instructor and ready to have a lot of fun getting healthy.

I am a transplanted Southern Cal gal where Disneyland, Knotts, the mountains & the beach were my playgrounds.

I am a professional and well educated... at least that's what the records show. I managed to earn my BA in Art and a PE minor at Chico State. (okay, it's still considered a real college no matter what kind of rep it has.) I am now lucky enough to be going into my 14Th year of working my tail off teaching for WPUSD nine months & playing hard the other three.

I truly took my health seriously and helped in opening this Gym with Kacie! I teach Zumba & other fun classes. I found it is possible to be over 50 and have a hard body... again. Fifty is the new thirty! I feel great and can still leave my students eating my dust when jogging the field. I was asked what is in my heart & what does it heart crave? It craves good health, family and friends around me and to see as much of the world as I can. Staying fit will help me to enjoy all these things for many years to come.

How about you... are you important?

I'm a Biology major at Sierra College. I strive to eventually be a part of the Department of Water Resources or any science based company that will take me. I also work at CVS as a pharmacy service associate and have been for almost 2 years. I am just now re-opening the book of self defense in my life and getting certified through FitOur as a kickboxing instructor. In my childhood, I started karate in the 4th grade and went all the way to my freshman year in high school. During that time, I received a black belt, was invited to work out in the black belt club for special training, and became an assistant instructor for Hidalgo's Kungfu Karate. I am so excited to get back to my roots and share my love for self defense with our gym members and hopefully they too will come to love and respect kickboxing as much as I do.

As an instructor at Guiding Fitness, I look forward to helping people in the community feel good about who they are. I am here to be the extra push, to be on your team. Everyone at the gym is family to me. How exciting to belong to such a wonderful and welcoming place!

Francisco Serrano

Zumba Fitness Instructor

My Name Is Francisco Serrano. I was born in Mexico, but I have lived in Yuba City for a long time. I'm Mexican-Colombian so I guess that's why dancing has been easy for me. I graduated early because I worked hard while in high school, and also because I went to private school on weekends. I tried a few desk jobs but they didn't really work for me.

I visited a gym that was offering Zumba Fitness. I decided to give it a try and fell in love with it. My passion for dancing has always been there. I am now certified as a Zumba Fitness Instructor. I try to give to people, who take my class, a little taste of my Latin heritage.

I enjoy teaching Zumba because it is fun, easy and effective. If you are ready to "Ditch the Workout, and Join The Party" come over and give it a try! You won't be disappointed.

My first memories seem to involve food and lots of outdoor activity. I grew up on acreage in Wilton where all our fruits and vegetables came from our organically grown trees and plants. I can't remember a time when we didn't have fresh eggs. We had fresh herbs year round. Homemade bread (before the bread makers) definitely shaped my taste for healthy carbs. Good nutrition and balanced meals were part of my everyday life. I played sports year round throughout my life growing up. Swimming, Taekwondo, softball, soccer and dance kept me busy. I believe that this early combination of diet and exercise lead to my need to get a higher level of understanding about how foods and activities affect your health. I knew not everyone grew up the way that I did and I wanted to be able to teach others the importance of good nutrition and get them excited about living a healthy lifestyle.

I enjoyed earning a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science at Chico State. While earning my B.S. in Dietetics I also worked at a local gym and taught classes. After having my first child I wanted to get back into shape. I found that Pilates gave me an even stronger core than before pregnancy. I then realized how important it was to have core strength for overall fitness. I knew I wanted others to see the same benefits that I did and made the decision to become certified to teach mat Pilates through PHI Pilates. I am an avid runner. I enjoy doing runs benefiting organizations and have run marathons the past three years. Yoga is something I have recently found to be beneficial in all aspects of my daily life. I love to teach Pilates with yoga for overall strengthening. I look forward to teaching and encouraging others to be as excited about nutrition and exercise for their overall health as I am with myself and my family.
