About the Trainers

Ryan

I am an ISSA certified personal trainer with a drive to aid any and every person to succeed in their pursuit toward a healthy and happy lifestyle. The drive for me began with the shame and humiliation I felt the first time I ever attempted a pushup. My face was beat red, my breath held tight, I pushed with all my might but my chubby belly never left the floor. I was in 5th grade, and it was my first annual fitness test. I spent the next few years working at bodyweight exercises, becoming more sport active and doing a ton of recreational swimming. When high school rolled around I was in good shape and ready to meet my first love; the closet they called a weight room. In that closet of a weight room I learned what potential really meant and that all of us have the potential to be more and achieve the goals we set out to conquer. The time spent in the gym was supposed to be mine, instead most my time was dedicated to everybody else. Teaching proper technique and spot assisting became a huge joy in my life. Since then my passion to help others pursue their desire for physical fitness has ceased to yield.

Accepting the invitation to join the Guiding Fitness team is an incredible honor. I extend my hand to all who are willing to seize their potential.

We learn, We grow, We conquer! No REGRETS!!!

I worked two jobs to pay for my bachelor's degree in Business Management at Mississippi State University. All through school I was never sure what I really wanted to do with my career. I knew that whatever it was, I wanted to help people. I also knew that I loved sports and anything active (you would think that I would have put two and two together back then). I looked at my Business Management degree as just a starting point.

After working in the 'real world' as a project manager for several years, I found myself bored and unfulfilled. I was only 24 and managing 6 people and 50 projects. Though I made good money and worked very hard to get where I was, sitting at a desk all day was not what I had envisioned as the perfect job.

I decided to look for a volunteer assistant coach position so I had something to look forward to at the end of the day. My first interview hired me on the spot as head coach of both girls and boys soccer. Cristo Rey High School had just opened a year earlier and needed someone to start their soccer program. Wow, was I way in over my head! I took the challenge with both feet in and loved every second of it! Most of the girls had never played soccer before. It was so rewarding to see how much they improved throughout the season.

I found my passion. Though I had general knowledge of training and fitness, I wanted to know more. I wanted to be a personal trainer and a coach!

Now here I am, AFPA certified and ready to conquer the world, helping one person at a time. I believe that everyone has it in them to be happy and healthy; sometimes they just need a little guidance.

I'm so excited to be starting something new in my life and to be able to get healthy at the same time. I'm currently in my second year as an Elementary school teacher and I find that it sometimes consumes way too much of my life. Last year I never made time to exercise so this year I made it a point to do something for myself and to put my health first. I have decided that while I am young and physically able, I am going to enjoy life and take in as much as I can. So when the opportunity to teach fitness classes came my way, of course I said yes. So here I am, getting certified as a Group Fitness Instructor and ready to have a lot of fun getting healthy.

I am a transplanted Southern Cal gal where Disneyland, Knotts, the mountains & the beach were my playgrounds.

I am a professional and well educated... at least that's what the records show. I managed to earn my BA in Art and a PE minor at Chico State. (okay, it's still considered a real college no matter what kind of rep it has.) I am now lucky enough to be going into my 14Th year of working my tail off teaching for WPUSD nine months & playing hard the other three.

I truly took my health seriously and helped in opening this Gym with Kacie! I teach Zumba & other fun classes. I found it is possible to be over 50 and have a hard body... again. Fifty is the new thirty! I feel great and can still leave my students eating my dust when jogging the field. I was asked what is in my heart & what does it heart crave? It craves good health, family and friends around me and to see as much of the world as I can. Staying fit will help me to enjoy all these things for many years to come.

How about you... are you important?

My first memories seem to involve food and lots of outdoor activity. I grew up on acreage in Wilton where all our fruits and vegetables came from our organically grown trees and plants. I can't remember a time when we didn't have fresh eggs. We had fresh herbs year round. Homemade bread (before the bread makers) definitely shaped my taste for healthy carbs. Good nutrition and balanced meals were part of my everyday life. I played sports year round throughout my life growing up. Swimming, Taekwondo, softball, soccer and dance kept me busy. I believe that this early combination of diet and exercise lead to my need to get a higher level of understanding about how foods and activities affect your health. I knew not everyone grew up the way that I did and I wanted to be able to teach others the importance of good nutrition and get them excited about living a healthy lifestyle.

I enjoyed earning a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science at Chico State. While earning my B.S. in Dietetics I also worked at a local gym and taught classes. After having my first child I wanted to get back into shape. I found that Pilates gave me an even stronger core than before pregnancy. I then realized how important it was to have core strength for overall fitness. I knew I wanted others to see the same benefits that I did and made the decision to become certified to teach mat Pilates through PHI Pilates. I am an avid runner. I enjoy doing runs benefiting organizations and have run marathons the past three years. Yoga is something I have recently found to be beneficial in all aspects of my daily life. I love to teach Pilates with yoga for overall strengthening. I look forward to teaching and encouraging others to be as excited about nutrition and exercise for their overall health as I am with myself and my family.
